Dump Burris
Roland Burris should resign. He says he has nothing to hide but that’s a sure sign he has something to hide. My daddy told me, “When you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.” Burris is associated with that embarrassing excuse for an Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich and its a stain he cannot wash off. Bloggo nominated Burris to take the heat off his outrageous abuses of power. Burris marched into Washington and boldly claimed his seat and we thought that was the end of the story. In fact, most people were impressed with his brass, a junior Senator standing up against the Establishment.
Now, it turns out that Burris has issued several versions of an explanation that contradicts his own testimony before the Illinois legislature (under oath). Is he just another Illinois crook? Doesn’t really matter any longer. Let’s hedge our bets and have a legitimate election to elect the replacement senator.
Some would say that he can’t go because then the Senate would have no African-American members. That’s old world thinking. To keep him there because he is Black is an attitude as old as Reconstruction. There are plenty of people in Illinois - both Black and white - who are superior to a tainted politician with little to recommend him.
