Where’s the separation?
Last year, Franklin Graham lent his private jet, which I’m sure is sanctified for charity work with Samaritan’s Purse, to Sarah Palin for her exploratory travels last year. I’m just now hearing about this but it bears repeating.
Now this doesn’t per se violate the separation of church and state but it points to a typical example that convinced the Founders that theology and government shouldn’t be too cozy.
Mostly, it points out how impolitic Franklin Graham is. Graham is the son of evangelist Billy Graham, who, unlike his father, largely stayed above politics. The younger Graham wades right in, spouting off irresponsible comments about Muslims, and world economics, and our president.
So when you are planning your donations, you should consider whether this organization’s extra-curricula activities are the kind of baggage you want to support.
Certainly, Samaritan’s Purse does some good in the world, but its leader is way too toxic for most Christians. What would Jesus do? Find a better channel for giving.
