New Testament Democrat

Democrats who focus on others in their thinking are more likely to line up with Christian values. And Democrats ARE more likely to focus on the needs of others.

New Testament Democrats - Old Testament Republicans

Dean Hartwell, at the Political Gateway, has posted an article that’s worth a read. It points out the different ways that Christian Republicans and Christian Democrats interpret the Bible.

Hartwell says that the difference is not in the theology but more in the politics. I think he has something there. He says that the Republicans get their politics from the Old Testament while the Dems gravitate toward the compassionate teachings of Jesus in the New Testament.

Republicans use the Bible to substantiate their positions on a strict moral code (e.g., an eye for an eye, sin must be punished), where the Democrats would emphasize mercy in support of societal harmony (e.g., turn the other cheek, I am my brother’s keeper).
